What we want to do - in brief

  • secure sustainable facilities for skate and other wheel sports in PL24 for the future
  • to use the skatepark for events, competitions and activities promoting skate and wheel sports
  • to make the wheelsports park accessible to all

Why we want to do it

  • skateboarders and scooter riders need safe places to recreate
  • compared to other sports, skateboarding is underserved in the area
  • with national health issues looming for today’s youth, it’s time to offer a greater number of healthy, athletic choices
  • skating in a park is much safer than skating in the streets
  • a skatepark is a place where skateboarders and other people who might not cross paths in the street can come together
  • skateparks can displace other less desirable activities in an area
  • skateparks can draw skateboarders away from less appropriate areas
  • young and old people use skateparks
  • skateparks support vibrant, healthy communities, just like many other athletic facilities
  • skateboarding, BMX and scootering are popular spectator sports
  • skateparks are flexible in design and can work in many different size plots.
  • the skatepark can be a place to go after school
  • neighborhood skateparks allow younger skaters to recreate safely close to home
If a town/village doesn’t have a skatepark, it IS a skatepark.

So our mission is to.....

Secure sustainable facilities for skate and other wheel sports in PL24 for the future;

Actively involve end users in the design, development and promotion of the facility and the sports involved;

Enable the development of improved levels of performance and skills in skate and wheel sports;

Contribute to the associated benefits of this in health and wellbeing, crime reduction and community safety;

Use the site for events, competitions and activities promoting skate and wheel sports;

Increase potential for engaging with young people, particularly deprived and disaffected young people in a positive way, increasing their life skills;

Encourage young people to aim towards the recommended 5 hours of activity per week to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce obesity.
